What an Evolving Wall™ asks of you: almost nothing.
Evolving Walls™ is made possible by The Curatorial Cycle™ — the four movements that carry a work from our care into your rooms and onward. Here is exactly what that involves.
Four movements
Apply, or be introduced
Tell us where you live, what you already own, and what you have never been able to stop thinking about. Most applications are answered within five working days. Membership is limited, and we would rather say "not this year" than place works carelessly.
Meet your curator
One person handles your collection throughout your membership. They will want photographs of your rooms, a sense of your light, and an honest account of what you dislike — which is more useful than what you admire.
Receive a selection
Three to five works, each with a reason. Decline freely. There is no scoring system, no algorithm learning your taste, and no penalty for saying no to everything.
Placement and installation
We deliver, hang, and light the work ourselves, using fixings appropriate to your walls. Installation is included. So is taking it away again.
Live with it
This is the part that matters, and the part we stay out of. Condition is checked at collection, not by inspection visits.
Continuation — or keep
At your chosen interval the work is collected and the next begins its residence, generally on the same day. If you cannot part with it, don't: acquisition is always open, with fees paid during residence credited against the price.
What membership covers
- Professional transport, installation and de-installation
- Full insurance in transit and in the home, including accidental damage
- Condition reporting and conservation between placements
- A named curator and a documented record of every work you have lived with
- Access to the full collection catalogue, including works not published publicly
- Invitations to studio visits, private views and the annual members' hang
- Acquisition credit accrued against any work on placement
Answered directly
Nothing punitive. Every placement is fully insured, including accidental damage in the home. You report it, we collect the work, our conservators assess it. Members are not charged for ordinary accidents — that risk sits with the club, which is where it belongs.
Yes. Any work on placement may be acquired outright, and a portion of the membership fees paid during its residence is credited against the price. Several members have kept exactly one work in five years and exchanged everything around it.
Your tier sets the number of scheduled exchanges included each year. Additional exchanges can be arranged at cost. Most members settle into three a year without being asked to.
You do. Your curator proposes — usually three to five works with reasons — and you decline as often as you like. Curation here means a good shortlist, not a decision made on your behalf.
Tell us within fourteen days and we will replace it at no cost. Photographs lie about scale, and rooms are more opinionated than people expect.
We currently place works across selected European cities and arrange installation ourselves. If you are outside our delivery region, write to us — we open new cities as membership density allows.
Yes, subject to review. Members with existing collections often consign works they no longer show, which earns exchange credit while the work is placed elsewhere.
Ready when you are.
Applications are reviewed personally, in the order they arrive.
